Hello! Welcome to my little blog about my little imaginary village of Crabapple Crossings. I am an adult collector of Calico Critters (also known in many international markets as Sylvanian Families.) I am based in the U.S., so I do tend to use the “Calico Critter” moniker for my collection. I also like to rename my families and give them different biographies than what is provided. Creating the new names and backstories is a big part of the fun for me!
I had one family and some furniture as a child in the ’80s, but as an adult was drawn to the toys’ cute outfits and happy little faces. I have always been drawn to miniature things, and I find that the critters are a great way to indulge in this interest.
I enjoy crafting very much, and I find that the wide world of the critters has encouraged me to try new styles of crafting – from designing and building structures to giving polymer clay a try; from sewing tiny clothes, to doing detail painting, there is a lot of trial and error for me.
My other interests are quite diverse, here are a handul: classics (as in ancient Rome, especially archaeology), midcentury modern architecture, reading about true crime and the legal system, and bad movies.
